Restoration of an amazing home in Palestine
originally built in the 1970′s, the renovation to this family home by tel-aviv-based architect hasan has a vibrant, yet relaxing atmosphere. wanting to emphasize the structure, colorful spaces are divided along an elongated plan. two shared, external walls maximize natural light, filtering it through to the interior in both directions. a diverse paint palette has been incorporated, and large mirrors on the ground floor foster a feeling of movement. the central kitchen unit is made from olive painted wood and exposed birch surfaces – it stands on a low, black platform, giving a light and airy feel to the heavy wooden unit. re-appropriated furniture pieces, such as table lamps from the 70′s were dismantled and turned into colorful metal lighting fixtures above the dining room. furthermore, the original terrazzo staircase was renovated and a new wooden handrail installed to soften its large mass. individual areas for the five family members were created through long white walls and definitive, colored surfaces. the living room connects directly to the exterior – a low pergola allows enough light to penetrate through, while still providing a sufficient amount of shade.
